Derek Williams
Derek is a management development consultant with experience as a line manager, internal and external consultant. He started his career in accountancy gaining commercial and managerial experience and then made a career change, retraining into the field of leadership and management development. He became an independent consultant in 1993.
He works within development networks to provide a breadth and depth of skills and expertise for clients. He has worked with Fruitful Developments for 3 years.
Derek works with individuals through workshops, development centres, coaching and action learning groups; teams through team development activities, team facilitation and forum theatre; and organisations through the design and strategic focus of leadership and management development activities.
He enjoys working with live issues where new skills, a new approach, or a change in mindset, can unlock a situation to create different possibilities and outcomes.
Clients have included: AKZO Nobel, HBoS, GlaxoSmithkline, Morgan Stanley, NHS, nationalgrid, LloydsTSB, APM Terminals, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Highlights from his career before becoming a consultant include developing and facilitating management skills courses in the UK and Europe for PricewaterhouseCoopers (and predecessor organisations). He managed the internal Management Development Unit, both operationally and in its strategic role. He was responsible for merging the management development activities of Deloitte Haskins & Sells and Coopers & Lybrand on their merger in 1991. He went on to manage the merged unit.
His education and accreditations include: Myers Briggs® Type Instrument (MBTI), OPQ, Lifestyles® (LSI), Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI), Re-evaluative co-counselling accreditation, BA (Hons) Accounting & Management and he is a Chartered Accountant (FCA).
Derek loves music, walking, exploring, designing and making things – both practical and aesthetic. “I am stimulated by the company of others, say on a lazy Sunday at home putting the world to rights, or on a long(ish) walk followed by eating, drinking, talking and laughing together”.
